MIT 100K Competition Mentor Dinner

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Today we had a very productive and engaging conversation with our legal mentor from the MIT 100k Competition, Ed Pease, a member of the Corporate Department at Brown Rudnick, and co-chair of the Emerging Technologies Practice. Ed gave us really good suggestions on how to rephrase our message to make it more concise and appealing to potential investors. Discussions with Ed and our other mentors will solidify our value proposition and take our project to the next level.

As an added bonus we received an unexpected $1000 grant from the competition organizers to promote our venture. We will see that it is spent wisely.

2009 Dell Social Innovation Competition

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

We were just named semifinalists for the 2009 Dell Social Innovation Competition (Congratulations to the other NextLab teams that made it to the semifinals as well!) It is good to have some more validation that we are on the right track, but we still need to work through the issues and undestand how our product will fit in the daily lives of the people and the merchants.

We had a very productive and encouraging talk with our advisors today, and we got a couple of ideas on how to better refine our business model. We also our first purely technical presentation in class today. We hope to get more valuable feedback from other teams on the same. For now, exploring some of the SMS gatweay options that other teams presented seems like a good idea, especially since we may need to choose a different SMS gateway when we move to a production version in the Mexican market. All of these will be very useful as we adapt our executive summary for the IDEAS competition (deadline: March, 15).

100k competition and more!

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

We have two great guest speakers today in class speaking on the topic of Project Management.

We also decided on the technological side of things and are ready to start coding. We came up with a pretty interesting way for authenticating users (stay tuned…)

From the business side, we’re finishing up the business model and the business plan.

We’ve entered in a few technical competitions this week as well.

By far, the most legendary part of the day was being named a 100k semi-finalist along side the Hammock team in the Mobile category. Check out a video at www.mit100k.org.

Congrats TEAM!!!!

and congrats HAMMOCK!!!!
